Looking At Ourselves Differently

What if the stigmas we carry inside about mental health, recovery, health or “hidden disease processes” were dropped? By us? All that shame and guilt about not being perfect – we can drop it. Right here, right now.

How would you feel?

Movies:

Saw one called “Riddle” out of the UK. No real headliners in the starring roles, but Derek Jacoby and Vanessa Redgrave were in supporting roles. Good story, well done.

Books:

I haven’t finished one. Turned out I’d read the one I got out of the library, and I have another to return with the same problem. However, I’m reading Ray Bradbury’s 100 Tales. That isn’t the real title, which I’ll have for you next time. The worst thing about the book is the size. It’s hard to hold while I’m reading it.

Writing:

I sent off a story called “The Smiling Cat” to see if it fits for publication.

For the Holidays:

I went to a luncheon where I couldn’t eat anything on the menu. Drank some unsweet tea (for those of you not in the south, you have to ask for it), and spent a little time socializing before the “more than 10 people” in the room got to me.

I went to “The Red Pig” with a group of 7 friends yesterday and had sour slaw and some al a carte pulled pork. Good food, as usual. The cabbage didn’t affect me too bad, though I had trouble chewing it. Crunchy stuff takes a long time for me.

I see my eye doctor today for a glasses exam. I lost my last good pair of computer glasses on Monday, which prompted me to finally make the appointment. I’ve been meaning to do that all year.

I received a “winter” coat from the “Santa for Seniors” program. It isn’t near as warm as I would like. I put a vest on underneath and wrap up really well to stay warm. That, and thermals. It needs to be “cinched” at the cuffs with some elastic, and I may put a cinch-cord at the hips. I sprayed it with water-repellent for fabrics so that it would be rain-resistant, and at least keep me dry. It does fit, however, which is a miracle, and it’s a nice shade of grape.

On that note, I have some progress to report:

Keeping to my food list, I’ve begun the downward trend on my weight. Finally! I seem to be losing about 3 pounds a week for the moment.

Now, if only my cat would let me sleep through the night.
