Life Updates and Activities

I’ve been eating a much cleaner Keto diet lately. I gained weight again and hit a new high. That, along with a couple of other “symptoms” got me to look at my morning FBS. After a week, it was really clear what foods were making the spikes.

It’s kind of like when I quit smoking in 2006. I watched my home-measurable readings react to activities. True, the FBS is a little slower reaction than the smoking was, but it’s still very evident what makes it elevate.

As a result, I re-dedicated myself to the Keto way of eating. I’m not perfect, though I’ve had a couple of days with extremely low carb consumption – which is what I’m working toward as a lifestyle. Still, under 60 grams of carbs a day is excellent. Working toward that 10-20 gram range is my daily goal.

I got another bladder infection, too. That means more antibiotics. The docs are starting to suspect that they aren’t caused by simple dehydration, as I was told several years ago. But each time I don’t drink enough water, I get a bladder infection. I can tell you exactly what day I didn’t drink enough water, so I’m still going with that.

I’m still studying like crazy. I’m not as obsessive about it, but I’m still getting 8-15 hours of instruction a week. I’ve completed another HTML/CSS challenge, pretty much learned SQL and Python, and moved on to Javascript. There’s a data-challenge going on over the summer for SQL, and I’ve come up with a couple of projects I’d like to design and work on, as well. If I can scrape the data together, I think it would be worthwhile to do them.

Here are two possible studies:

  1.  How many acknowledged alcoholics have insulin resistance? Is it a result of their drinking?
  2. How many people were food deprived as children have become foodies today? I don’t mean that as children they didn’t get enough to eat – but that their choices were limited.  This study would also be helpful to combat food deserts.

And finally, I’ve created some MP3 files (podcasts) and put them on my Patreon channel. I’m running a series that I’m feeding a chapter to each week. The series is on the “Pattern on the Trestleboard” and I’m taking one statement a week in a structured way to expand and explain. I hope this series proves helpful and educational to any of my patrons. You must be at least a $1 monthly supporter to access the series. I’ve included an introductory post for people who are on the fence. These are simple posts with audio files.
